I'm not participating, but I support it. Because despite my determination not to get shippy with Supernatural, I seem to ship Dean and Cas like whoah. And I wanted the pretty picture on my journal.

RULES | CURRENT ROUND & SCHEDULE | SIGN UP | WATCH

We invite you to [profile] dc_dystopia, a Dean/Castiel and Jensen/Misha-centric fanwork challenge community inspired by the likes of j2_everafter and dc_everafter – but with a dark twist. Rather than focusing on true love, happy endings, and fluff, [profile] dc_dystopia is all about reveling in dark!fic tropes and endings where things aren't quite so neatly resolved. If it might belong in a nightmare, then it has a place here.

Sign ups are currently ongoing for ROUND TWO, our first themed round. The theme of this round is the REVERSE-BANG FORMAT, where artists submit things first and have stories written based on their work.

I was once told by a gas station attendant that I had never met in my life and never would again that she was allergic to toilet paper.  She went into detail about this.

I never went to that gas station again.

SPN - Castiel Smoky Wings

I've decided to once again try to keep track of the books I read in a year.  This time, I'm going to do one big year-long post instead of monthly ones.  It'll give me something to do, anyway.

What I've Read... )

TOTAL BOOKS READ:  93

I didn't even break a hundred.  That's just sad...

Decisions, decisions...

  • Oct. 31st, 2011 at 7:16 PM
Actor - John Simm Kill You With My Mind
I think I'm going to make my journal semi-friends only.  I have my Real Life reasons, and it'll probably be a good decision in the long run.  If I haven't added you as a friend yet, let me know and I'll take care of that.  I intend to leave my fiction, my reading list, and my haunted sites list unlocked, but anything else will be locked.

[EDIT]  Okay, what the hell is it about this particular entry that's attracting spam?  I've already had to delete two from this post.  It hasn't appeared anywhere else, just here.  Apparently, this is a fascinating topic that I must post more about.  *eyeroll*

Just to show I'm alive...

TW - Captain Jack Promo
I feel like I've been neglecting LJ.  So, here's some random babblings to show I'm still alive, if not quite sane.

* I didn't realize just how badly I missed Torchwood until Thursday, when a friend of mine who gets STARZ casually mentioned that the new episode was on Friday.  While I tend to think of Torchwood as being silly, and sometimes downright awful *coughCyberwomancough*, I do usually find it fun.  I may be able to get the first episode next week, but by then, everyone will have seen it and spoiled it.  Argh...

* Speaking of Torchwood...  As I've mentioned before, I've been reading up on Norse mythology, with an emphasis on Loki, since he's the most fascinating of the gods.  Reading up on him, I suddenly realized he's about as omnisexual as Captain Jack, and now I need a story in which has them both.  I don't know what the plot or relationships will be, but this must happen.  I'm pretty sure the universe would implode.

* I had an utterly bizarre dream about My Little Ponies last night, in which I was desperate to acquire the original-style ponies, especially Applejack, who'd been my favorite as a child.  This resulted in me hanging around a daycare and stealing ponies whenever a child brought one in.  Then the dream became even more bizarre when someone brought in this lovely pony, which was orange with a purple mane and had the most gorgeous Easter dragon picture on its body.  Initially the pony was normal MLP size, but later in the dream, it was the size of a real pony and some guy wanted its skeleton, so he tossed it into a vat of acid and I watched the plastic melt away to reveal an armature of springs, wire, and bone.  It was actually really gruesome...
General - Werewolf Snarl

I need some sort of 'RAGE!!!' icon.  But I suppose an angry werewolf should suffice for now.

So, earlier today, I went to the local library - the one that had the new content filter - to see if they'd corrected the problems.  The answer?  Yes... and no.  Some stuff, such as fanfiction.net, is accessible.  Others, like LiveJournal, are completely off limits, due to the fact that the problem it experienced months ago still marks it as a pfishing site.  For me to use it, I'd have to give the library every address of every journal and entry I want to visit.  Um... no.  So I'll have to continue to burn gas when I want to interact with others.

Also, I was supposed to have a lovely weekend of house-sitting for my sister, which included high speed internet and air conditioning.  But that got canceled at the last minute.  *growls*  (Not her fault, I should add... she's more upset than I am, since they'd been planning this for a month.)

Why I need a life...

DW - Crazy Ten is Crazy
After some time poking around in Norse mythology and all its fucked-upness (thanks to seeing Thor a few too many times) I have come to a conclusion:

There aren't enough Vikings in Doctor Who.

Or dinosaurs, for that matter.  But that doesn't quite fit with this post.

DW - Ten Kitten
I don't have any dog icons, so we get the Doctor with a kitty.  Because that never stops being adorable.

I may have mentioned before, my Dad has three rather large dogs who are basically his replacement children.  In fact, he treats them better than he ever treated us, and I'm not at all jealous of this fact.  Really.

Anyway, he had to go out of town last night, leaving me alone with the dogs (who I shall refer to as Male Dog, Female Dog, and the monstrous Offspring.)  The dogs don't mind me, because I can usually be manipulated into sharing food or giving them treats; otherwise, they ignore me completely.  And they may be spoiled, but they're basically low maintenance.

Well, they knew something was up, because when my Dad left for work yesterday, they did what I refer to as their 'sad song;' Female Dog starts off with her odd ululating howl, then Offspring joins in, and Male Dog starts barking, becasue he can't howl.  It's actually hilarious, but not much fun at 6:30 in the morning.

It's not often I get the house to myself  for a whole day, so I planned to enjoy it.  Pizza, movies, and lazing about in my Dad's room, which is the only room in the house with air-conditioning.  It started off well enough; I got the pizza, which made the dogs my bestests friends EVER, and started to watch a movie.  Unfortunately, it was around this time that it was dawning on the dogs that something was Wrong, that my Dad should have been home by then but instead, they had me feeding them and putting them outside.

This made them paranoid, and suddenly I was faced with a fun new problem: they barked at everything.  Squirrels, rabbits, cars, rain... anything that made the slightest sound, they went off.  I'd yell at them, and they'd listen for about five minutes before starting up again.  This made watching movies rather difficult.  And then came the whole sleep issue...

My Dad had said I could sleep in his room (it is, as I said, air-conditioned), but when I tried, the dogs kept barking.  So I moved into the living room to sleep on the couch, leaving the bedroom door open and the AC off.  (I needed to make sure I could get to the dogs if one of them needed to go outside.)  Nope... they just came to the living room windows to bark.  So I tried sleeping in the far back bedroom of the house, where I normall sleep, giving the dogs the run of the house so I could still hear them if they needed to go out.  They still kept barking.

I tried to tell myself that they had to sleep sometime, but then again, they tend to sleep some 16 hours a day when left to their own devices, so they don't mind missing a few hours at night.

Finally, at about 1 am, I turned the AC back on, shut them in my Dad's room, and went to bed on the uncomfortable couch so I could still hear if they needed to go outside.  After that, they didn't make a peep.

So basically, I got about four hours of sleep on an uncomfortable couch with a little fan blowing cool air on my face, while the dogs slept on my Dad's huge, comfortable bed in an air-conditioned bedroom.  And I somehow managed to wake up around the time my Dad usually lets them out in the morning, rather than catching up on much-needed sleep.  Somehow, I don't think I come off as the smart one in this...
